Project Description
Installation of energy efficient public lighting in the Blidinje Nature Park
In July 2021, Meridijan launched the project “Installation of energy efficient public lighting in the Blidinje Nature Park”, which has been successfully implemented in the past two months. With the mentioned project, 11 public lighting lamps in LED technology were installed on the existing poles at the Barzonja location, in full compliance with the currently valid legal regulations.
Funds for this project were provided with the support of the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of the West Herzegovina County based on the contract on co-financing the environmental protection project, and with co-financing of local residents.
Meridijan is a voluntary and independent citizens’ association that protects and promotes the rights and interests of citizens in the Blidinje Nature Park. Its purpose is to solve long-term and current local problems related to environmental protection and preservation of natural and cultural heritage in the vicinity of Blidinje Lake. Therefore, the goal of this project was to provide the local community living in this area with quality lighting while optimizing the cost of public lighting. The installation of environmentally friendly public lighting enables the local people to move easily and in the evening hours, while respecting the principles of energy efficiency.
The project is important for the local population, but also for all visitors in the Blidinje Nature Park. It contributes to the general economic development of the area, which every day attracts an increasing number of domestic and foreign tourists.
